Druva Cloud Platform Brings Advanced Disaster Recovery and Governance Capabilities to AWS Workloads

By David

Druva, Inc. today announced significant updates to Druva CloudRanger, Druva’s data protection solution for AWS workloads, including the industry’s first advanced automated disaster recovery, legal-hold, and file level search. Part of Druva Cloud Platform, these enhancements enable businesses utilizing AWS cloud environments to protect against unplanned events, better manage the lifecycle of their data and respond rapidly to compliance and legal data inquiries.

As enterprises continue to migrate application workloads to the cloud, ensuring disaster recovery and managing underlying data governance has become a critical need. Traditional on-premises systems have become too costly and complex, and fall short in addressing cloud architectures. Emerging cloud-based systems, however, are not immune to system corruption, user errors, outages or malicious attacks and can be difficult to manage for compliance or legal needs given the distributed nature. With Druva CloudRanger, enterprises are now able to ensure business continuity, minimize production environment impact and meet increasing compliance regulations across their AWS workloads through a single solution.

"The needs of today’s businesses, increasingly taking place in the cloud, have surpassed the capabilities of yesterday’s on-premises systems," said David Gildea, vice president of product and general manager, Druva CloudRanger. "With growing data footprints, Druva CloudRanger automated disaster recovery, governance, and deep level searches bring AWS users powerful control and manageability in a scalable, reliable SaaS solution. These enhancements will ensure enterprises achieve both business continuity and reduce the risks of their data in the cloud."

Microsoft Acquires FSLogix to Enhance Virtual Desktop Capabilities in Office 365

By David
Written by David Marshall

Microsoft announced today that is has acquired FSLogix, a company that launched back in 2012 with a focus on reducing the amount of hardware, time and labor required to support virtual desktop platforms.  FSLogix products solve real world problems in a straightforward, easy to deploy way.  From small businesses to very large global enterprises across numerous industries, their solutions enhance customer experience and productivity, while reducing support requirements for IT departments.

FSLogix co-founder and CTO Randy Cook said the company’s first two products, FSLogix Apps and FSLogix Profile Container, "focused on addressing critical needs that have existed from the dawn of desktop virtualization" while their most recent product, Office 365 Container, "is designed to enhance the Microsoft Office 365 experience in those virtual desktop environments."

FSLogix Apps, one of its flagship solutions, provides a unique approach to managing applications that allows you to create a single master disk image while hiding applications from end users that are not entitled to them.  It can also be used to enforce device-based licensing.  FSLogix Profile Containers are getting rid of folder redirection, and optimizing login and application start times, and virtually eliminating profile corruption and login storms.

Announcing Fugue Risk Manager to Help Identify Cloud Compliance Violations and Protect Against Data Breaches

By David

Fugue announced the release of Fugue Risk Manager. A new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, Fugue Risk Manager is designed to make it easier for enterprises to identify compliance issues in their cloud environments and prevent them from reoccurring.

Fugue Risk Manager inspects cloud infrastructure environments and identifies resource configuration issues for common compliance regimes, including AWS CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53 Rev. 4, GDPR, HIPAA, and custom controls specified by the customer. Once violations are corrected and a known-good baseline is established, Fugue Risk Manager can automatically identify configuration drift and revert it back to the established baseline as soon as it occurs.

"Enterprises that adopt the cloud are quickly confronted with the challenge of guarding against infrastructure misconfiguration that leads to critical data breaches and costly compliance fines," said Phillip Merrick, CEO of Fugue. "We developed Fugue Risk Manager to simplify the task of finding these problems and ensuring they never happen again, and to do so efficiently to support the speed and agility today’s business demands."

Windows User Profile Disks are Good but…

By David

With the widespread adoption of Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox Enterprise, etc., Windows user profiles are now more bloated than ever before. In virtual workspace environments this can be a big challenge because if your users don’t have very fast access to their large user profile, user experience suffers greatly. Some type of profile containers/disks are now available from most desktop virtualization vendors. Profile disks, offloading the user’s profile to a virtual disk hosted on an SMB or in the cloud, is the very baseline type of profile that you must have to have a profile persist in virtual non-persistent desktop environments.

You likely already have a profile disk feature/capability included in your virtual desktop platform of choice. How easy or difficult it is to create and manage those profile disks varies greatly from vendor to vendor.

HyperGrid Enables Enterprises and Service Providers to Cloud Smarter With HyperCloud 6.0

By David

HyperGrid, the market leader in Hybrid Cloud Management, is enabling enterprises and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to Cloud Smarter with HyperCloud 6.0, the next generation of the industry’s first intelligent Hybrid Cloud Management (HCM) platform. HyperCloud 6.0 helps enterprises and MSPs through their cloud journey with the addition of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda and Microsoft Azure Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) Program support, enhanced automation and turnkey compliance analysis and remediation, among other new features. With these updates, HyperCloud 6.0 allows organizations of all sizes to execute robust cloud migration projects; continuously optimize cloud consumption; automate security and compliance; and scale cloud operations to support business needs.

"Industry analysts have predicted that overall cloud adoption rates will increase from 58 percent two years ago to 85 percent in 2019. However, many businesses discover early-on that effective cloud adoption requires far more cloud planning, management and optimization expertise than they anticipated," said Nariman Teymourian, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer at HyperGrid. "HyperGrid has seen strong demand for our HyperCloud platform from enterprises and MSPs alike as public cloud adoption continues to accelerate because we help them Cloud Smarter, reducing the pain and increasing the ROI of their digital transformation."

HyperCloud combines the power of machine learning and analytics for vastly superior cloud management capabilities. HyperCloud is different than other solutions on the market because the platform takes a proactive approach to cloud planning, cost management, governance, security and compliance for complete transparency into cloud operations without the guesswork. The platform eliminates the manual, complex and error-prone processes that can impede or derail cloud adoption and operational scaling with simple setup and workflows that require just a few clicks to get actionable insights.
