HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, today launched the new HARMAN Ignite 3.0, an automotive digital ecosystem for OEMs – a solution that brings the benefits of connected life into the vehicle.

With HARMAN Ignite 3.0 ecosystem, automakers can leverage this platform to offer drivers smart features such as a vehicle-centric marketplace, an automotive-based virtual assistant and enhanced navigation with point-of-interest (POI) search and intelligent personalization – directly in their vehicles.

In addition, HARMAN Ignite 3.0’s digital ecosystem equips Automobile OEMs with a seamless, secure and cost-effective way to introduce and regularly update these features for their customers. Consumers can enjoy a smarter driving experience that keeps pace with technology as it evolves – and OEMs can create new digital revenue streams by providing in-vehicle services that keep customers satisfied.

On the eve of CES, Intel leaders – Gregory Bryant, senior vice president, Client Computing Group; Navin Shenoy, executive vice president, Data Center Group; and Professor Amnon Shashua, president and CEO of Mobileye, an Intel company – took to the stage to showcase the company’s commitment to continuously improve the computing and communications foundation that will advance the way we experience the world and expand human potential.

The company made several announcements spanning PCs and new devices to diverse growth segments including artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and autonomous driving (AD). And Intel’s leaders discussed the innovation necessary across the data center, cloud, network and edge to enable the new user experiences and form factors of the future.

Intel showcased its latest Intel Xeon Scalable products, shipping today with advanced AI and memory capabilities, and 9th Gen Intel Core desktop products. It also announced new 10nm products for PCs, servers and 5G wireless access base stations, the future of new chip designs based on its 3D packaging technology (Foveros).

Intel also spotlighted what’s possible when technologies work seamlessly together across the entire spectrum of computing. Comcast and Intel are working together to bring the connected home to life. New initiatives with Alibaba demonstrate how Intel AI plans to deliver athlete tracking technology during the next Olympics. Mobileye and Ordnance Survey will bring us closer to the realization of smart cities and safer roads.

When it comes to the business motivations for selecting a particular Cloud offering, agility was mentioned by 45% of the respondents and time to value for analytical initiatives was cited by 43%.  Agility and time to value for analytical initiatives both juggle two key considerations in terms of timeliness and insight. Whereas agility allows a business to quickly pivot to address changing needs and opportunities, quicker time to value not only means that development platforms will provide information quickly, but also that organizations will be able to receive the business insights that inform their ability to forecast how their current strategy will perform in the short term and/or pivot their strategies to address changes in the market.

SIOS Technology Corp.’s President and CEO Jerry Melnick reveals his top cloud predictions for 2019. The cloud has a rich history of continual improvements, and 2019 will usher in some fairly significant ones that enhance capabilities, simplify operations and reduce costs. Melnick outlines the following five major trends that guide his predictions:

1. Advances in Technology Will Make the Cloud Substantially More Suitable for Critical Applications

With IT staff now becoming more comfortable with the cloud for critical applications, their concerns about security and reliability, especially for five-9’s of uptime, have diminished substantially. Initially, organizations will prefer to use whatever high availability failover clustering technology they currently use in their data centers to protect critical applications being migrated to the cloud. This clustering technology will also be adapted and optimized for enhanced operations in the cloud. At the same time, cloud service providers will continue to advance their ability to provide higher service levels, leading to the cloud ultimately becoming the preferred platform for all enterprise applications.

Use a Firewall

A cybersecurity best practice that you should take into consideration is using a firewall if you don’t already. If you don’t know what a firewall is, on the other hand, it’s a program or device that filters information that’s coming through the internet connection into your private network. Setting up a firewall can help create a barrier between your data and cybercriminals. In addition to external firewalls, you also have the option of installing internal ones as well as they provide added protection.

In the case that you have any employees working from home, make sure they install a firewall on their network as well. Alternatively, provide software and support for home networks to ensure compliance.

Award winning innovator Kove IO, Inc. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS). The lawsuit challenges foundational aspects of AWS’s cloud-based products and services, including how data is efficiently and scalably stored and retrieved.

The patents asserted by Kove cover technology that enables the modern cloud. Kove’s inventors developed and patented technology that allowed hyperscalable distributed "cloud" storage years before the advent of the cloud. The MIT Technology Review described distributed storage technology based on hash tables as a top 10 emerging technology that will change the world. This was five years after the first of Kove’s patent applications covering this very technology.
