SwiftStack Supports New Veeam Cloud Tier with Cloud-Native Storage for Long-term Data Retention

SwiftStack, the leader in multi-cloud data storage and management, today announced full support for the new Veeam Cloud Tier, unveiled today at Velocity 2019, Veeam’s annual sales kickoff event. The day-one support is the result of Veeam and SwiftStack’s partnership efforts to mitigate the hyper-growth of data enterprises must manage, store, recover, and utilize.

Growing backup loads and compliance requirements have created a need for longer-term data retention that is more cost-effective than what traditional storage infrastructure can deliver. Veeam Cloud Tier provides unlimited capacity for long-term data retention by using native, cost-effective object storage integrations, such as cloud or on-premises object storage.

SwiftStack supports Veeam’s new backup and recovery capabilities and allows users to realize the economy and elasticity of cloud, whether in their own datacenter, across multiple geographic regions, and/or to the public cloud. Unlike using cold storage for long-term retention, data stored on SwiftStack always remains active and available on demand.

Local data on Veeam servers can be automatically moved between performance and capacity tiers created in SwiftStack based on management and retention policies. Stubs representing the migrated files, along with associated metadata, are maintained in the performance tier, while the longer-term retention data lives on SwiftStack. Other policies can be assigned based on protection, location, access, or other requirements. SwiftStack stores data in a highly durable manner across its cluster and can automatically replicate the data offsite to another datacenter or public cloud to protect against a major disaster.

"SwiftStack brings much-needed cloud and datacenter storage strategies to Veeam users who want to reduce storage acquisition, scaling, and management costs," said Ken Ringdahl, Vice President of Global Alliance Architecture at Veeam. "The appetite for cloud storage is continuing to increase and SwiftStack delivering scale-out on-premises capabilities with a bridge into a public cloud service is an ideal solution."

"This joint solution creates cloud-native storage on premises to ease capacity and compliance challenges, but also enables other data-driven applications and workflows to shift to cloud storage in areas such as analytics, AI/ML, scientific research, or media post-production," said Erik Pounds, Vice President of Marketing at SwiftStack. "Veeam Cloud Tier is an excellent step for enterprises to modernize their infrastructure with cloud storage by realizing near-infinite scale, a path towards multi-cloud, and eliminating unnecessary costs."
