Nebula, developers of an OpenStack-based hardware appliance that will allow all businesses to easily, securely and inexpensively deploy large private cloud computing infrastructures, today announced that the OpenStack Dashboard project it is leading is now a core component project of OpenStack as of today’s "Diablo" release, the fourth major release of the open source cloud platform. OpenStack Dashboard is a web-based user interface that manages OpenStack services…

OpenStack, the open source cloud operating system founded by NASA and Rackspace, enables cloud service providers to flexibly manage large pools of compute, storage and networking resources. Released today, the latest version code-named "Diablo" adds new features that make it possible for a broader range of organizations to deploy OpenStack-based cloud services in production environments.

Founded by several of the original founders of the OpenStack project, Nebula actively contributes code to various OpenStack projects and is helping to shape the future of the platform. A growing number of companies are embracing OpenStack as a foundation for their cloud computing products and services, resulting in the possibility of interoperability and portability across these products and services.

The OpenStack Dashboard is the face of OpenStack, exposing the platform’s rapidly evolving features and functionality to developers, system administrators and end-users. Nebula will focus on ensuring OpenStack’s user interface remains flexible and pluggable, enabling developers to easily expose new features, thereby driving the wider adoption of OpenStack among developers, enterprises and service providers.

"The OpenStack Dashboard is a significant part of the OpenStack ecosystem. Its success can be attributed to contributions from a number of organizations such as NASA and Rackspace," said Devin Carlen, Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering at Nebula, and Project Technical Lead for the OpenStack Dashboard project. "The project will not only highlight OpenStack’s functionality but will also present a pluggable architecture that will make it easier for the growing number of companies building products and services that extend OpenStack’s core functionality to integrate with the platform."

"Nebula’s goal for the OpenStack Dashboard is to increase the platform’s usability by providing a consistent and open user interface for the widest range of enterprises and service providers," said Tres Henry, Principal Engineer at Nebula. Henry, who led the development, deployment and maintenance of the Amazon Web Services Management Console now leads a team at Nebula that will focus on improving the usability, as well as the design and user interaction, of the OpenStack Dashboard over the next release cycle.
