Object storage leader Cloudian today announced a coordinated effort with partners Penguin Computing and Intel to bring their production hardened object storage product to market as a bundled turnkey solution for OpenStack users. Cloudian natively supports full S3 APIs, is small-start capable with complete elasticity, and is fully integrated with OpenStack’s Nova, Glance, Horizon, and Keystone. Built by Penguin Computing, the new scale-out, multi-datacenter capable solution boasts ultra-low power consumption and high drive density, enabled by the Intel® Atom™ C2000 processor’s 64-bit architecture. The solution will be provided to enterprise users through Penguin’s global network of VAR partners. Cloudian is also available as software only for customers to install on hardware of their choice.

"We are excited to work with Penguin Computing and Intel to deliver our carrier grade storage on OpenStack, which precisely addresses the demands of our customers," said Michael Tso, Founder and CEO, Cloudian. "Penguin’s deep enterprise expertise coupled with Intel’s Atom C2000 processors offers industry leading efficiencies at a competitive price. The solution significantly eases the barriers for the adoption of OpenStack in the enterprise."…

This new alliance propels Cloudian into the OpenStack ecosystem, though Cloudian’s software has been deployed at scale in production environments across multiple datacenters for more than three years with customers such as NTT, LunaCloud, and others spanning the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Cloudian’s timely ingress into the OpenStack ecosystem reflects the industry’s strong demand for hardened solutions at competitive prices. The turnkey cloud storage solution based on the Intel Atom C2000 processor family represents a first to market for the OpenStack ecosystem.

"Businesses are seeking turnkey, enterprise-grade, OpenStack solutions as they transition workloads to the cloud", said Bev Crair, General Manager of Intel’s Storage Division. "To meet this growing demand, Cloudian and Penguin Computing have created a solution that takes advantage of the 64-bit architecture, 5X performance increase over our prior generation, and 50% lower power offered by the Intel Atom C2000 processor. This solution helps customers rapidly deploy large scale, high-density cloud implementations."

Cutting edge server provider Penguin Computing quickly recognized the opportunity to deliver turnkey OpenStack cloud storage with Cloudian and Intel, having been one of the elite launch partners selected by Intel to debut their Atom C2000 processors in late September.

"Power, cooling and manageability are the biggest challenges faced by modern datacenters and the enterprise. The decision to combine Intel’s Atom C2000 processor family with Cloudian’s massively scalable and S3 compatible object store running on OpenStack was near instant," said Penguin Computing CEO Charles Wuischpard. "The solution is an ideal platform for service providers, the enterprise, and SMBs alike."

The innovative cloud storage solution will be available through VARs starting in early Q1 of 2014. For more information, please visit www.cloudian.com.
