Cloud computing and customer relationship management (CRM) go hand in hand, helping businesses become more productive. According to new research by Gartner, the two solutions complement one another and are being used by firms to reach business goals. Today there are a wider range of options, which smaller firms are taking advantage of to increase their competitiveness.

The Trend Upwards

Cloud Tech News recently featured a piece on Gartner’s latest research around CRM trends. Gartner found that half of all CRM tools will be hosted in the cloud by 2015, which is predicted to increase substantially to 85 percent by 2025. This surge in CRM cloud usage proves that businesses of all sizes believe in the benefits such a tool provides…

Cloud Computing: Microsoft sees new Azure tool as a proactive trouble-shooter

By David

Satya Nadella’s first tweet came in mid-February 2009 and it consisted of two words. "Machine learning!" he wrote. Even for Twitter’s 140 character limit, that was a brief entry and was more cryptic than the usual inaugural tweet — something along the lines of "Knicks stink" or "Springsteen rocks" — but in retrospect, it’s starting to make sense.

At the time, Nadella, who became Microsoft’s chief executive this past February, was in charge of research and development for the company’s Online Services division. It turns out that Microsoft was embedding this kind of predictive machine-learning technology into its Bing search engine to return relevant answers to user queries in ranked order…

SAP and LG collaborate on cloud computing

By David

Grazed from KoreaTimes. Author: Editorial Staff.

SAP Korea, a major enterprise software developer, struck a partnership with LG CNS to accelerate the deployment of its in-house memory database platform. The partnership includes the establishment of the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud Center (SAP HEC) in LG’s cloud data center in Busan, the nation’s biggest port city, according to a joint statement, Monday.

SAP and LG CNS said they aim to leverage in-memory computing capabilities to make processes that traditionally require batch processing available in real time. SAP Korea said it will help the LG Group affiliate expand its client base beyond the peninsula. "The SAP HEC Center will lead a key role in setting up infrastructure for cloud computing to be used with corporate clients and also provide needed services to existing and future clients," the statement said…

Cloud Computing: Creating a More Efficient Data Center

By David

Grazed from SmartDataCollective. Author: Cameron Graham.

As the world increasingly relies on technology, the need for data storage has exploded. In fact, 90 percent of the data stored today was generated in the past two years. Cloud computing has become the norm, and corporations and private citizens regularly use virtual machines throughout their day.

What we often don’t consider is how that data collection and storage affects other aspects of our lives. We get excited about having access to huge quantities of on-demand media (think Spotify, or Netflix), but we rarely stop to think about where that information is stored. In the end, even data has to reside in a physical location…

Cloud Computing: Apple, Cisco, AT&T join Microsoft in fight against global search warrant

By David

Grazed from GigaOM. Author: Derrick Harris.

Apple, Cisco and AT&T all filed amicus curiae briefs on Friday supporting Microsoft in its appeal of a decision requiring it to hand over data about an Irish customer to U.S. law enforcement officials. Verizon filed an amicus brief on Microsoft’s behalf on Tuesday. The case highlights how the advent of cloud computing has technology companies overcoming their competitive differences in order to challenge troublesome data-protection laws.

In this case, U.S. magistrate judge James Francis IV decided that pursuant to the Stored Communication Act, Microsoft must provide law enforcement officials with the contents of an Irish customer’s email, which is stored on servers located in Dublin, Ireland. Microsoft and its peers argue the warrant defies both the Stored Communications Act and numerous international law constructs, including treaties the United States has in place with other countries — Ireland among them — regarding how to handle requests for data about each others’ citizens…

One certainty in all this cloud confusion: the fight is on

By David

Grazed from GigaOM. Author: Barb Darrow.

We’re at an interesting juncture in the cloud computing era. Amazon Web Services, which has had public cloud pretty much to itself since it launched the category in 2006, now faces an array of contenders. Yes they’re late to the party so yes they’re (much) smaller. But yes many have credible offerings, especially for companies that are bigger and older than startups and have at least a grasp of their workload size and variability.

And that means we’ll see more of this kind of thing – VMware’s response to the Amazon TCO calculator. (TCO stands for total cost of ownership.) One of VMware’s points is that Amazon’s basis for comparison is skewed against companies with on-premises deployment. Then it trots out its own TCO comparison showing (spoiler alert) that it costs less to run 100 virtual machines for 4 years in a VMware shop than with AWS…

Cloud Computing: Windows 9 To Be Central Part Of New Microsoft Strategy

By David

Grazed from ValueWalk.  Author: Christopher Morris.

It would be fair to say that Windows 8 met with a rather lukewarm critical response. The latest Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) operating system was widely criticized for removing some of its most familiar features, most notably the ‘Start’ menu, and it was only a matter of time before Microsoft disowned it and released a replacement. Thus, it’s not surprising that Windows 9 is already seemingly on the horizon, according to recent leaks.

Microsoft malaise

This is a particularly critical time for Microsoft, given the general move towards cloud computing which is forcing the company to evolve its entire business model. When Microsoft recently appointed its first new CEO in nearly fifteen years, Satya Nadella, the emphasis was on how his background was going to enable Microsoft to change…

Cloud computing is the future but not if security problems persist

By David

Grazed from TechTimes.  Author: Sumit Passary.

Cloud computing has received a lot of popularity in the last few years and market observers believe it to be the future, but not if security problems persist.  For people who are not familiar with cloud computing, it is the practice that involves usage of network servers that are remotely located. Users can access the remote servers via the Internet to manage, store and process relevant data, rather than on the personal computer of a local server.

Many businesses are using cloud computing that usually turns out to be cheaper, faster and easy to maintain. Now, not only businesses but regular Internet users are also using cloud computing services such as Google Docs, Dropbox and more to access their files whenever and wherever they want…
