SolarWinds, a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, today announced its participation at VMworld 2016 US, August 28-September 1, 2016, in Las Vegas held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center. At the event, SolarWinds Head Geeks hybrid IT, and host its third annual Experts & Espresso, a series of free, expert-led learning sessions.

"With today’s hybrid application infrastructure, gaining performance visibility and connectivity into all components are more important than ever," said Christoph Pfister, executive vice president of products, SolarWinds. "Applications and data are now fluid, residing in single or multiple on-premises datacenters, cloud-based datacenters, SAAS solutions, or in combination. The SolarWinds suite of system and network products provides the user with a single interface to pinpoint application issues in their virtualized infrastructure, while also optimizing resources for optimized application performance. For hosted applications, SolarWinds provides performance visibility into all networking layers that were previously unknown to IT administrators. VMworld is the ideal place to showcase these capabilities and get vital feedback from our users and the larger virtualization community."

Cloud Native Computing Foundation Expands Globally With Seven New Members

By David
The Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which is advancing the deployment of open source software stacks that orchestrate containers of microservices, today announced that Apigee, Caicloud, Exoscale, Minio, Mirantis, Packet, and StackPointCloud have joined the Foundation to accelerate the adoption of cloud native technologies. These seven new members have joined a community of more than 50 enterprise technology leaders passionate about developer experience and simplified operations for cloud native technologies.

According to a recent report released by Gartner, as IT spending on cloud services reaches $114 billion this year and grows to $216 billion in the year 2020, cloud native infrastructure is becoming more attractive. As IT budget dollars shift from data centers to the cloud, open source, container technology, and microservices architectures are increasingly vital for enterprises hoping to run at scale.

Avere Systems, a leading provider of hybrid cloud enablement solutions, and Cycle Computing, the leader in public cloud orchestration software for big data and big compute, today announced a technology integration that enables hybrid high-performance computing (HPC) in popular public cloud computing environments. By integrating the Avere vFXT Edge filer cloud bursting technology with Cycle Computing’s CycleCloud offering, users are now able to launch an Avere tiered file system on demand linked directly with the CycleCloud managed scalable compute nodes through cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.

The integration addresses a growing enterprise need for hybrid cloud solutions that enable organizations to seamlessly store data and run applications on premises or in the cloud with minimal latency and without moving large datasets from existing storage locations. The combined solution solves two of the biggest barriers to hybrid HPC adoption: automation of cloud resources and ubiquitous access to data from any storage location.

Veeam Software, the innovative provider of solutions that delivers Availability for the Always-On Enterprise, today announced the next generation of Availability: Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud.

According to IDC, enterprises are engaged in a continuous digital transformation process as they adapt to or drive disruption by leveraging digital competencies. To enable this, we are already at the stage where switching to a cloud-first strategy is a necessity for survival, not a strategy for competitive advantage. By 2019, most organizations around the world will need to complete the shift to a predominantly cloud-based IT environment, and this places a huge pressure on availability tools to deliver a constant experience across multiple environments.

In a game-changing move to address these challenges, Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud provides businesses and enterprises of all sizes with the capabilities to ensure Availability for virtual, physical, and cloud-based workloads in the Hybrid Cloud through the following capabilities:

Ensuring Cloud Computing Success

By David

With more and more companies migrating to the cloud, it’s time to talk about the risks of doing this. Before you start to panic, just stop and listen for a minute. Cloud computing is still infinitely safer than what you were doing before, there is no doubt about that, however as with airplanes being the safest way to travel, they still occasionally encounter problems and have to land on the Hudson River.

I just want to make everyone aware of the potential risks so that they know how to combat them, because knowledge is the best defence and any reputable hosting company like Umbee Cloud Hosting will be able to combat and neutralise any threat better than Rambo and a horde of angry locals, anyway…

By David

The volume of information about cloud computing can be overwhelming for small and mid-size enterprises as owners, executives, and IT professionals look for the best solutions. To ease their burden, Cumulus Global launched a new online resource center to help SMEs learn and make better decisions.

"Much of the discussion about cloud computing focuses on the infrastructure and platform services used by larger enterprises," notes Cumulus Global CEO Allen Falcon. "Our Resource Center focuses on information most useful for small and mid-size businesses, nonprofits, and government entities."…

What Goldilocks can teach us about cloud migration

By David

Grazed from InfoWorld. Author: David Linthicum.

Do you have a cloud push underway? "Cloud push" is the term I use to describe enterprises that are quickly migrating to the cloud around an urgent need. Organizations engaged in a cloud push are moving hundreds of workloads to the cloud ASAP, not a few dozen over several years. Examples of cloud pushes include:

* Because you’re selling your datacenters, you need to get to the public cloud as fast as possible.
* Your current systems aren’t secure enough, so you’re moving to the cloud to fix your security at the same time.
* IT costs too much, and your investors are not happy. The choices are a new IT staff or a move to the cloud. You chose the cloud.

You can easily create a business case for moving workloads to the cloud. The board, the CEO, and the CIO all get the value. The challenge is to figure out the right pace…

Cloud Computing: Bridging the skills gap to hybrid IT

By David

Grazed from CCI. Author: Editorial Staff.

Stop me if this sounds familiar: the future of enterprise infrastructure is hybrid IT. While you may also be waiting for me to tell you that water is wet and the sun is hot, the obviousness of the above statement leads to a question:
why, if hybrid IT is so clearly the future, do so many IT pros lack the requisite skills to successfully drive its migration forward?

In a recent study on the evolution of hybrid IT, it was found that only 28 percent of IT pros are certain that their IT organisations currently have adequate resources to manage a hybrid IT environment, and just 48 percent feel they have the level of support from leadership and their companies to develop the skills needed to better manage hybrid IT environments…

Fog and Cloud Computing: Working Together

By David

Grazed from RTInsights. Author: Carlos Aragon.

As with many things in life, the key is finding the balance. Fog computing aims to resolve some of the challenges of cloud computing by reducing latency, optimizing WAN bandwidth consumption, strengthening security, and improving redundancy and availability. That being said, it isn’t a panacea—there are many scenarios where cloud computing remains the better solution and both cloud and fog architectures are needed to deliver the best solution.

Just as not all clouds are made equal, not all fogs are made equal. Abuse of the term “cloud” has led people to believe that there is only one cloud, when in reality there is a myriad of clouds, one per application, because the cloud is not only defined by the server or networking technologies, but also by the interfaces and APIs used by the applications…
