Vision Mobile’s 12th Developer Economics Global Survey, which reached out to more than 21,200 developers across 160 countries, revealed many developer trends in the cloud segment, and how developers around the world are utilizing top cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

As expected, Amazon Web Services is the most popular cloud service provider, running away with medium to large enterprises segment, while holding a marginal lead with small companies with 1-5 employees. 5 Tips for a Trouble-Free Cloud Migration

By David

Grazed from Tech.co. Author: Tom Andrulis.

If you’re considering migrating to the cloud, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey, companies run 79 percent of their workloads in the cloud. It’s easy to see why: in a cloud environment, you benefit from redundancies that bring you as close as possible to 100 percent uptime. It may sound ideal, but there are hidden roadblocks to migrating to the cloud. Before you make the move, ask yourself these five crucial questions:

How Much Downtime Should You Expect?

When you make the switch to a cloud environment, you’ll need to shut down your old equipment and switch on the new equipment at a certain point. In between, there will be a period of downtime that could last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. The exact amount of time will vary from one business to the next. When planning your cloud migration, it’s important to know how long you can expect the downtime to last, so you can plan accordingly…

By David

Grazed from 1RedDrop. Author: Editorial Staff.

The growth of cloud computing has not only made companies around the world take notice and shift their IT priorities, but it also made tech giants that sat on the sidelines – like Google and Oracle – take the plunge and fight for market share. Amazon and Microsoft are racing towards $20 billion in annual cloud revenues, which they should hit within the next few years, but considering the furious rate of growth, should we brace for a slowdown in the near future?

Far from it, says Rackspace’s CEO in an interview with ZDNet. “Rackspace CEO Taylor Rhodes said that while revenue across the big cloud players is around $20bn, that’s still dwarfed by the $500bn of applications and data still held in data centers — and it could take a decade or more for all of that to move to the cloud…

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) has unveiled a wave of new partners and members in one of its largest announcements of the year. The CNCF brings together a community of 1,500 developers and users from a large multitude of companies including Google, Fujitsu, Samsung SDS, Intel, RedHat and Huawei that work on open source technologies to orchestrate containers as part of a microservices architecture.

Cloud Computing: Two in three enterprises at least planning on moving to DevOps, survey finds

By David

Grazed from CloudTech. Author: James Bourne.

A new survey from machine data analytics provider Sumo Logic has found more than two thirds of enterprises either plan to adopt DevOps or are already doing so, while four in five are currently or plan to use at least one public cloud service. The study, titled ‘The New Normal: Cloud and DevOps Analytics Tools Reign in the Modern App Era’ and put together alongside UBM Technology, found that of the 230 IT operations, app development and information security professionals polled, 67% are utilising software as a service, while 42% are deploying and updating apps more frequently than in the past.

When it came to the types of public cloud service being used, Microsoft Azure (66%) and Amazon Web Services (55%) were the most popular. In another finding that was less than surprising, security was the biggest challenge to cloud adoption, cited by 27% of respondents. Only 6% of those polled thought the security of public cloud was ‘excellent’, albeit with 55% adding public cloud services were more secure than previously…

Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing Keys To Climate Change Challenges

By David

Grazed from CleanTechnica. Author: Steve Hanley.

If the human race has any hope of meeting the challenge of climate change, it will need to think its way out of the conundrum it has wrought. People need meaningful work to do. Business owners need profits to stay in business. Commerce takes energy — lots of it — to keep chugging ahead. But work and commerce generate effluent that poisons the land, the air, and the seas. The more successful mankind gets at lifting itself out of ignorance and poverty, the more it sows the seeds of its own destruction.

A few lucky souls can decamp to new colonies on Mars to escape the ravages of climate change, but that won’t help the billions left behind. And what’s to say our species won’t pollute neighboring planets the way it did the earth? Maybe what is needed is more collaboration and more innovation…
