Can the Cloud Protect Your Data?

By David
Article Written by Avery Phillips

For most people, the cloud is this otherworldly thing that they don’t completely understand. Yes, your data is there, and yes, occasionally other people can access it, but is it safe? Can you guarantee who is able to access your data, or is it a free-for-all?

Well, the answer to that is more complicated than you think. On one hand, some severe cyberattacks could have been avoided if the victims had been using cloud services instead. On the other, there is always the risk that someone unauthorized will be able to access your data. This might seem like a double-edged sword, but one end is clearly sharper than other upon closer inspection.

Cloud Computing shifts may rearrange pecking order for Intel, Qualcomm, AMD, Nvidia, chipmakers

By David

Grazed from ZDNet. Author: Editorial Staff.

Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data and the Internet of things along with a heavy dose of mobility are rewriting the semiconductor pecking order. This shakeout is going to be fun to watch. In this new world order, novel workloads (think AI) are forcing customers to design their own processors. Dominant companies (think Intel) may become less dominant. ARM meets the data center.

And former challengers like AMD launch comebacks based on GPUs, an area dominated by Nvidia. And don’t forget the Internet of things, another market trend that’ll likely benefit Qualcomm. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich summed it up following the company’s strong second quarter. “We continue to see intense competition across our businesses…

The dangers of cloud computing: Is your information safe?

By David

Grazed from NYDailyNews. Author: Mike Rogers.

The “Cloud”. You may have heard of it and no, I don’t mean those fluffy things in the sky. But what is it? How does it work? And what does it mean for you and your family? You may be surprised to realize that you and your family likely use the cloud almost every day. Have you uploaded a photo to Instagram?

Well, it’s now in the cloud. How about backing up your iPhone to the iCloud? That’s a little obvious, but yes, you’ve backed up your photos, contacts, and notes to a cloud. The cloud is the latest way of storing information and using services on the internet, but its origins go back to the 1950’s…

Microsoft joins Cloud Native Computing Foundation

By David

Grazed from Microsoft. Author: John Gossman.

I’m excited to share that we have just joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Platinum member. CNCF is a part of the Linux Foundation, which helps govern for a wide range of cloud-oriented open source projects, such as Kubernetes, Prometheus, OpenTracing, Fluentd, Linkerd, containerd, Helm, gRPC, and many others. Since we joined the Linux Foundation last year, and now have decided to expand that relationship to CNCF membership as a natural next step to invest in open source communities and code at multiple levels, especially in the area of containers. Some specific examples include:

* Kubernetes: Microsoft has been contributing code to the Kubernetes project, as well as running Kubernetes as part of the Azure Container Service. Engineering manager and architect Brendan Burns is one of the Kubernetes project maintainers.

* Helm: The Helm project was started by Deis before being acquired by Microsoft and continues to be developed and improved by Microsoft engineers. Adam Reese, Michelle Noorali, and Matt Butcher are all project maintainers…

How can Blockchain Improve Cloud Computing?

By David

Grazed from iEx.ec. Author: Editorial Staff.

There is a growing demand for computing power from scientific communities and industries to run large applications and process huge volumes of data. The computing power to run Big Data application is most often provided by HPC and Cloud infrastructures. Blockchains like Ethereum offer a new approach to run distributed applications.

Ethereum allows programmer to write smart contracts, that is code which is executed on the blockchain virtual machine, whenever some transactions are fired. Thus, the Ethereum blockchain provides a distributed runtime environment with distributed consensus over the execution as well as resiliency. These features are quite unique and the possibilities are yet to be discovered…

Where Does Cloud Hosting Fit into the Hosting Product Mix?

By David
Most early users of web hosting opt for what’s known as a shared hosting plan. This type of plan provides access to a server along with many hundreds of other user accounts which share both the resources and available bandwidth of that single server. Performance is disappointing in most cases and one quickly outgrows the slow page loading times. Looking beyond shared hosting, there are a number of other hosting options that are viable for mid-size and large websites that require something more specialized.

Let’s look at the hosting choices available for SMEs.
