Microsoft has unveiled a new hardware system called Brainwave that will allow developers to use high-speed artificial intelligence, by deploying machine learning systems onto programmable silicon. This would mean that performance could go beyond levels of current central processing units, with a lack of batching operations intending to help hardware to handle requests as they receive them.

Billed as a "major leap forward in both performance and flexibility for cloud-based serving of deep learning models," the real-time AI system uses ultra-low latency which would benefit cloud infrastructures that need to process live data streams. Using the field programmable gate array that Microsoft has been deploying, there would be no software used in the loop, instead serving DNNs as a hardware microservice and mapping one to a pool of remote FPGAs…

CloudShare, a leading supplier of specialized cloud-based IT lab environments for software training, sales demos and PoCs (proof of concept), and development and testing, today announced the immediate availability of a new virtual machine (VM) import tool that makes migrating VMware and Oracle VirtualBox VMs to the cloud much easier and faster than before.

Many organizations and cloud services still rely on file transfer protocol (FTP) to migrate VMs to the cloud. These uploads take hours to complete, and the process is not reliable. Errors are common, especially with large files, and there is typically no way to know whether an error has occurred until the lengthy upload process is complete.

CloudShare’s new VM Import tool checks for potential errors immediately at the start of the process, enabling the vast majority of errors to be detected within two minutes instead of the hours of waiting that FTP-dependent methods require. Plus, if errors occur, CloudShare provides a unique auto-correct feature that users may accept or override. The entire process runs behind the scenes so users can keep working on other tasks until complete. The end result is a custom CloudShare template that includes initial networking, and which can easily be joined with existing pre-built CloudShare templates to create a complex environment in no time.

Alphabet Inc’s Google this week will disclose technical details of its new Titan computer chip, an elaborate security feature for its cloud computing network that the company hopes will enable it to steal a march on Amazon.com Inc and Microsoft Corp. Titan is the size of a tiny stud earring that Google has installed in each of the many thousands of computer servers and network cards that populate its massive data centers that power Google’s cloud services.

Google is hoping Titan will help it carve out a bigger piece of the worldwide cloud computing market, which is forecast by Gartner to be worth nearly $50 billion. A Google spokeswoman said the company plans to disclose Titan’s technical details in a blog post on Thursday…
