VMware, Inc., a global leader in cloud infrastructure and business mobility, today announced that leading analyst firm IDC has named VMware as the market share leader in both worldwide cloud systems management and datacenter automation software based on 2016 revenues. VMware topped both categories for the fourth year in a row.

"These industry reports validate our commitment to delivering a comprehensive, enterprise-ready cloud management platform that enables organizations to gain a major competitive edge," said Ajay Singh, senior vice president and general manager, Cloud Management Business Unit, VMware. "Delivering on our vision for the future of infrastructure has afforded us to maintain the leadership position in both cloud systems management and datacenter automation. Being recognized by IDC is an honor, and we look forward to continued collaboration with our customers to meet their evolving cloud management and automation demands."

Ranked No. 1 in Cloud Systems Management

According to IDC’s report, "Worldwide Cloud Systems Management Software Market Shares, 2016: Year of Monitoring and Analytics Growth," VMware’s market share stood at 21.2 percent, more than seven percentage points above the second place vendor. To keep up with the demand for management solutions optimized for multi-cloud environments, VMware was recognized for its continued efforts to offer customers a unified approach to cloud management monitoring, analytics and automation.

The report notes that, "Customers are shifting priorities away from simply automating cloud IaaS provisioning and self-service and putting greater emphasis on application performance, infrastructure capacity and cost optimization, configuration compliance, and integrated service management workflows. Enterprise customers are becoming more and more comfortable with SaaS-delivered cloud management solutions and are seeking management platforms that support unified, API-based integrations across monitoring, analytics, governance, reporting, and automation."

Enabling Datacenter Automation

IDC’s "Worldwide Workload Scheduling and Automation Software Market Shares, 2016: Vendors Pivot to DevOps," highlighted how VMware leads with 15 percent market share in 2016. To support the industry’s need for datacenter automation innovation, VMware introduced a series of new product releases in 2016 to demonstrate the company’s commitment to evolving its automation portfolio.

The report states that, "Enterprise customers will continue to value automation capabilities that enable more efficient IT operations, optimize infrastructure resource utilization, and improve end-to-end service levels by reducing human error and driving applications into production faster."
