Containership, a company rooted in making hybrid and multi-cloud computing simple, is expanding their offering with the announcement of the public beta release of Overlaycloud. While the service is currently still invite only, interested parties can sign up to gain exclusive first access to the low cost cloud and edge computing platform beginning today.

Overlaycloud has partnered with several data centers to help monetize and take advantage of their unused computing power. The end result is top tier servers at bottom dollar pricing for the consumer, and availability zones in regions that the big cloud providers don’t currently operate in.

The switch to Nutanix was a result of an assessment, which determined that the Bears’ 3-tier infrastructure was over-allocated. As a result the team decided to deploy a hyperconverged solution for its Microsoft SQL Server databases, financial reporting software, and player scouting application.

Improvements enabled by the Chicago Bears’ use of the Nutanix solution include:

"Over 80 percent of businesses still run on-premise Microsoft Windows file servers to store their files," said Madhan Kanagavel, CEO, FileCloud. "There is no easy way for team members to access these files remotely, greatly inhibiting the speed at which business can be conducted. Worldwide spending on public cloud services and infrastructure is forecast to reach $160 billion in 2018, an increase of 23.2% over 2017, according to the latest update to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Spending Guide. Although annual spending growth is expected to slow somewhat over the 2016-2021 forecast period, the market is forecast to achieve a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.9% with public cloud services spending totaling $277 billion in 2021.

The industries that are forecast to spend the most on public cloud services in 2018 are discrete manufacturing ($19.7 billion), professional services ($18.1 billion), and banking ($16.7 billion). The process manufacturing and retail industries are also expected to spend more than $10 billion each on public cloud services in 2018. These five industries will remain at the top in 2021 due to their continued investment in public cloud solutions. The industries that will see the fastest spending growth over the five-year forecast period are professional services (24.4% CAGR), telecommunications (23.3% CAGR), and banking (23.0% CAGR).
