While using the cloud to handle payroll is nothing new – it was already in use in 2011 – bigger companies have been slower to adapt than small businesses and startups. Let’s look at why companies would be better off following the fairly recent trend of ditching legacy systems and migrating to the cloud.

The Legacy System and Security

McAfee, the device-to-cloud cybersecurity company, today announced the availability of McAfee MVISION ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) deployment gives organizations more time to dedicate their efforts on security concerns by eliminating the typical hardware, software and database maintenance tasks associated with on-premises management solutions.

McAfee MVISION ePO is a SaaS solution that offers a simplified, centralized point of view and comprehension. It removes the deployment and maintenance overhead of backend infrastructure and allows customers to easily migrate their existing McAfee ePO environment. Organizations can focus exclusively on reducing security risk with the agility of AWS and always run the latest security capabilities. With McAfee MVISION ePO on AWS, McAfee manages the service and further leverages AWS to provide premier infrastructure.

Verizon Digital Media Services today announced it has added a round-the-clock managed cloud security offering as part of its global Cloud Security Solution. The managed cloud security component provides access to expert security professionals who monitor and proactively take corrective action against the latest security threats, no matter the time of day. The addition of this offering complements features previously available within Verizon Digital Media Services’ leading Cloud Security Solution, including a dual web application firewall (WAF), distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection, bot management, and real-time analytics and reporting.

VMware vSphere 5.5 was probably the most installed version of vSphere to date.  And many virtualization administrators have fond memories of this release.  vSphere 5.5 goes all the way back to 2013, and it was hands down the most stable, fast and reliable hypervisor around.  But all good things must come to an end.  VMware products typically undergo a few stages within its lifetime:

• General Availability (or GA)
• End of General Support (EOGS)
• End of Technical Guidance (End of Supported Life)

"End of General Support" is the date, generally 5 years after GA, from which VMware will no longer support the product actively.  And back in February of this year, we warned you that vSphere 5.5 was nearing the End of General Support or EOGS stage.  Well, that time has come and gone.  On September 19, 2018, vSphere 5.5 officially exited the general support phase and has moved onto something else, "Technical Guidance."  If you’re playing buzzword bingo at home and trying to follow along, we should probably try to clarify what this means.
