Master data management programmes ‘contribute to business success’

Companies which have master data management strategies in place can expect to be more successful in how their business operates and ensuring their records are accurate.

This is according to a new study from the Aberdeen Group, which found organisations that performed best in the field of master data management avoided problems with inaccurate information affecting their business decisions.

They also had higher product sales than less well-organised competitors.

Right now, your vice president of sales is looking at the iPad 2 and drooling. Or maybe that Pavlovian response is being elicited by the BlackBerry PlayBook, or the Motorola Xoom, or any of the herd of other tablets and smartphones that will be unleashed on the market any day now. Whichever it is, he’ll want sales apps for it, and access to back-end data. And whichever one his salivary glands are working overtime over, you can count on it being the one that you weren’t planning on supporting.

NEC Offers Europe OpenFlow Switches

NEC has delivered a new type of experimental switch to European research institutions based on the OpenFlow packet routing system. The idea behind the OpenFlow effort is that today’s network needs to be smarter and more flexible in order to handle and efficiently deliver more information. To do that, the fundamental idea is to separate the packet switching mechanisms and control functions. Users can freely develop and operate control middleware independently of the switching mechanism.

Data quality ‘should be central to organisations’

Companies should see their data quality policies as central to the way in which they operate.

According to a new report from Computer Business Review and Experian QAS, organisations in both the private and public sectors are coming to realise how important accurate information is when it comes to dealing with customers and citizens.

"Indeed, many organisations have already established that data quality initiatives should not just be one-off projects but an ongoing practice that is woven into the very fabric of their operations," it said.

McAfee Opens New Cloud Data Center in London

Just a week after Intel completed its acquisition of McAfee, it’s back to business as usual as the security company expands its cloud footprint with a new data center to power its security software as a service business.

McAfee has activated its fifth cloud data center in the past 12 months, and another center is expected in a few weeks, the company said Mar. 7. The centers underscore the company’s commitment to growing its e-mail, Web and endpoint security and vulnerability management SAAS offerings, McAfee said.
