Companies should see their data quality policies as central to the way in which they operate.

According to a new report from Computer Business Review and Experian QAS, organisations in both the private and public sectors are coming to realise how important accurate information is when it comes to dealing with customers and citizens.

"Indeed, many organisations have already established that data quality initiatives should not just be one-off projects but an ongoing practice that is woven into the very fabric of their operations," it said.

Having a joined-up approach to data can be achieved through making the right investments in technologies, services and best practices, the report claimed.

Last month, independent consultant Jim Harris told IT Business Edge that data quality projects should focus on the business relevance of information, as well as its technical aspects.

This will help companies to prevent information on individual customers being stored in different ways across a number of departments.
