5 Care Improvements Hospitals Experience With SaaS, Cloud Computing

By David
Grazed from Becker’s Hospital Review.  Author: Kathleen Roney.

With healthcare costs continually increasing, hospitals can turn to innovative technology to aid care collaboration and coordination across a fragmented healthcare continuum. Innovative, smart technology is a key step to lowering healthcare costs, according to Thomas R. Ferry, president and CEO of Newton, Mass.-based Curaspan Health Group, which connects providers, payers and suppliers via secure electronic patient-transition networks to improve outcomes as patients move between levels of care. Smart technology — software-as-a-service networks — provides the level of connectivity, content and automation required for improving care coordination.

"Waiting for the Supreme Court decision is not a good excuse to delay on innovating or to do nothing. I think if anything, it is a reminder that action is needed now. By taking the technology and tools available in the market today, smart healthcare organizations can build the infrastructure to lower costs of healthcare delivery, to participate at lower reimbursement levels and to have a much better collaboration, which will result in better clinical organizations," says Mr. Ferry…

Cloud can help companies prepare for big data

By David
Grazed from Experian QAS.  Author: Editorial Staff.

While managing the growth of information can be challenging to some organizations, leveraging cloud computing technologies can help decision-makers remain productive in their efforts to do so. By using cloud-based services during the advent of big data, organizations can enhance the flexibility and availability of mission-critical solutions, according to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Disparate infrastructure systems will no longer be able to manage the rapid expansion of information, and the lack of scalability often makes legacy equipment inadequate for a growing business, the news source said. Cloud computing, on the other hand, enables organizations to migrate as much or as little information to a virtual environment as necessary without negatively impacting data quality

Multi-Tenant Architectures Must Balance Security, Availability

By David
Grazed from Network Computing.  Author: Gary Hilson.

Cloud computing is obviously here to stay, so enterprises need to balance security and availability when using private, public or hybrid cloud services that leverage multi-tenant architectures.

Forrester Research defines multi-tenant architectures as "IT architectures that let multiple customers (tenants) share the same applications and/or compute resources with security, reliability and consistent performance." AdTech Ad

In its recent research report, "Understanding Cloud’s Multitenacy," the analyst firm concludes that multi-tenant architectures are not necessarily a less secure model. However, need to understand the type used by any service they consume, as well as their own security responsibilities…

The Politics Of Cloud Computing

By David
Grazed from CloudTweaks.  Author: Florence  de Borja.

There are many issues taken for granted by companies when they move to the cloud. Aside from various technical issues, businesses fail to recognize that they’ll have to take into consideration the cultural environment of their own company. A very common problem that all businesses will encounter is the internal politics within the organization, which will tends to slow down cloud computing adoption.

Many application programmers won’t give up control of their software programs and servers because it can hamper software performance. Aside from that, these developers will reason that they will have difficulty controlling and deploying application updates. Users will resist cloud computing implementation within the company due to fear of the unknown. The internal structure of IT departments in companies and the legacy approaches to their process management will definitely bring problems to the speedy implementation of cloud computing projects…

On September 24 – 25, cloud computing experts from around the world will gather in Mannheim, Germany, bringing a range of experience and perspectives on how to reduce the complexity of high-performance computing and the barrier for research and development by switching to cloud computing. This year’s conference will also address the topic of Big Data.

“HPC utilization is becoming increasingly complex and a new trend emerges almost every year. There’s multicore and manycore, scaling up and out, big data, digital manufacturing and the missing middle, green computing, and HPC in the Cloud”, said ISC Cloud General Chair Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gentzsch, an international expert in HPC and Grids who now brings his expertise to the clouds. “What the end-user is really looking for is research flexibility, easy access to HPC, reduced management overhead, and possibilities to extend the existing and limited HPC infrastructure.”…

How cloud can give back to open source

By David

Grazed from ITWorld.  Author: Brian Proffitt.

There’s been a lot of talk about open source and the cloud, which makes sense given the proliferation of open source technologies that actually comprise cloud computing.

But what about open source in the cloud? Can cloud computing and storage provide open source projects less expensive access to computing resources?

The question seems to be answered by a revelation today from Debian GNU/Linux developer Lucas Nussbaum, who has outlined how Debian archive services are now completely hosted on Amazon Web Services…

Decade of the Cloud? Tech Leaders Say It’s Working Out That Way

By David
Grazed from Forbes.  Author: Joe McKendrick.

There are several common threads running through the SIIA report, packed full with the views of 49 technology CEOs and VPs. All agree that cloud computing — converged with mobile and big data analytics — is the single biggest game-changer in this decade, both for technology providers and consumers.

Will the 2010s be remembered as the “Decade of the Cloud”? The decade is actually still young, so who knows?  It was too early to predict in 1992 that the 1990s would become the decade of the Internet, or in 2002 that the 2000s would be the decade of social media. But the signs were all around of something big in the making during those times.  And we see a new type of economy coming out of the economic hurricane that hit full-force in 2008-09…

Who Owns Your Data and What Can They Do With It? Understanding Data Privacy and Information Security in the Cloud

By David
Grazed from PRWeb.  Author:  PR Announcement.

With the recent introduction of Google Drive, cloud computing services are garnering increased attention from entities looking to more efficiently store data. Specifically, using the “cloud” is attractive due to its reduced cost, ease of use, mobility and flexibility, each of which can offer tremendous competitive benefits to businesses.

Cloud computing refers to the practice of storing data on remote servers, as opposed to on local computers, and is used for everything from personal webmail to hosted solutions where all of a company’s files and other resources are stored remotely. As convenient as cloud computing is, it is important to remember that these benefits may come with significant legal risk, given the privacy and data protection issues inherent in the use of cloud computing. Accordingly, it is important to check your cloud computing contracts carefully to ensure that your legal exposure is minimized in the event of a data breach or other security incident…

Cloud computing providers – an attractive target for AET-based attacks?

By David
Grazed from Secure Business Magazine.  Author: Ash Patel.

The news of the discovery of advanced evasion techniques (AETs) brings to light the infinite possibility of intrusions into corporate networks and how they are able to circumvent existing security systems.

Cloud computing has been under the spotlight in recent years due to its numerous benefits, such as the reduction of management and administration costs, scalability, optimisation of resources and investments, increased efficiency and flexibility. All these can help businesses that strategically choose to entrust the management of certain applications or entire business processes to third parties…
