Dell plans to launch a public cloud computing service later this year as it seeks to expand its software and services revenue to combat shrinking profit margins from its PC business.

vCompute Announces New Cloud Computing Facility in Partnership With Quasar Data Center

vCompute announced today it has successfully negotiated a new partnership with Quasar data center to provide cloud computing and high performance computing services. "This facility is a key component for cloud efforts and the additional complex computing services our clients require. The Quasar center will also allow vCompute to deploy a high security development lab for software companies that need to perform benchmarking and scalability testing," commented Edward Hawes, CEO of vCompute This facility is the third compute center vCompute has deployed in Houston and a fourth is planned for San Diego CA. to accommodate defense efforts.

The Quasar and vCompute partnership will concentrate on providing private cloud services and server farms to clients locally and abroad. Amazon’s ‘cloud evangelist’ to address summit

NEXT month’s Dublin Web Summit has received a boost with the confirmation that one of the driving forces behind cloud computing has been added to the speakers’ list.

Amazon’s chief technology officer Dr Werner Vogels, who is also known as one of the fathers of cloud computing will address the summit’s "Beyond The Cloud" event.

Salesforce adds social, mobile capabilities to cloud

Enterprise cloud computing company Salesforce.com extended its Social Enterprise Platform, that includes Force.com, Heroku and Database.com, to enable more users to its cloud. Salesforce.com made this announcement at the DreamForce 2011 event.

Google App Engine Price Rises Shock Developers

In May, Google announced that it would alter the price of its cloud computing service App Engine, the company’s Platform as a Service offering, later in the year, presumably in an effort to turn the product into another profit centre for the company.
