A federal IT consortium now estimates that federal agencies are now already saving about $5.5 billion annually with their cloud implementations, but that’s only part of the story. It’s likely that this savings will rise to $12 billion as cloud efforts move forward.

That’s the call from MeriTalk Cloud Computing Exchange (CCX), a community of Federal cloud leaders. The rosy savings numbers come from a newly released survey of 108 federal IT managers that extrapolates the cloud numbers from reported savings. On average, the IT executives report a savings so far of at least 7% off their IT budgets for the next fiscal year.  Based on the 2013 IT budget of $78.9 billion, that’s about $5.5 billion in annual Federal savings, the study concludes…

Cloud computing company Gizmox Ltd. has raised $3.5 million at a company value of $26 million. Gizmox shareholder Maayan Ventures Ltd. (TASE:MAYN), which owns 30.4% of the company, announced that investment funds IVIC and CIG invested $2.5 million, and current shareholders, Maayan Ventures, Citrix Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) and private investors, including Prof. Arie Scope, invested $1 million.

Gizmox CEO Navot Peled, Guy Peled, and Dan Lichtenfeld founded the company in 2007. The company’s Visual WebGui solution converts applications to cloud environments. The company has raised $11 million to date…

Enterprise architects have been a staple of corporate IT departments for well over a decade now, starting in earnest with the advent of service-oriented architecture and corporate data modeling. The need for enterprise architecture was spurred by the need to gain control over an increasingly complex computing environment, and an increasingly large backlog of data and feature needs. But those needs are changing, and so is the job of the enterprise architect.

The use of the term “architecture” in this context comes, in part, from the idea that one can create a “blueprint” for how a business can run on technology. The “architect” is someone who looks at the materials available, interviews the “client” (aka the business) about desired form and functional outcomes, and engineers solutions to meet those needs…
