AboveNet, a provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions, has signed an agreement with AWS to this end.

The company notes that companies of all sizes can leverage AWS Direct Connect to benefit from a web services platform in the cloud. Customers can use compute power, storage, and enjoy other services-gaining access to a suite of elastic IT infrastructure services to keep up with business demand.  Following this agreement, AWS customers can use the secure, advanced network connectivity delivered by AboveNet…

AboveNet is now an AWS Direct Connection Solution Provider, and this means it can offer AWS customers the benefit of its established, dedicated network that boasts 2.3 million metro fiber miles and connections to more than 450 datacenters. Initially, AboveNet will offer connections to the AWS Direct Connect service at 100Mbps, 1Gbps and 10Gbps bandwidth levels.

“AboveNet is pleased to be one of the first AWS Direct Connect Solution Providers,” said Rajiv Datta, chief operating officer at AboveNet. “This teams us with one of the industry’s leading cloud providers to ensure that customers have high quality, high bandwidth access as they move mission-critical applications to the cloud.”

Elaborating further on AWS Direct Connect, AboveNet notes that it allows customers to establish connectivity between AWS and their datacenters, offices, or colocation environments. In addition to reducing network costs, it can increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.
