Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Dualtec Cloud Builders, part of the UOLDiveo group, has scaled its cloud environment and expanded its service offerings with a new Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform. Working with Red Hat to design and deploy its integrated, OpenStack-based cloud environment in just 45 days, Dualtec has improved operational efficiency by 35 percent. Dualtec’s deployment represents the first OpenStack-based public cloud in Brazil, following Dualtec’s active participation in the upstream OpenStack community since 2011.

Dualtec originally launched as a telecommunication and Internet solutions provider for small and medium-sized businesses in Brazil. With more than 11,000 clients, Dualtec is a cloud computing pioneer in Brazil, understanding that an integrated environment for managing its cloud computing infrastructure efficiently would be critical to enabling the company to scale and grow without increasing operating or other costs. Believing that OpenStack is the best solution for the cloud, Dualtec decided to launch the first OpenStack-based cloud in Brazil, adopting the open source cloud operating system to control compute, storage, and networking resources. But, Dualtec had an aggressive goal to launch their new OpenStack cloud environment within 45 days – a timeline that included everything from designing the architecture to deployment.

Oracle Corporation Executive Chairman Larry Ellison, taking the stage at the company’s massive flagship tech conference in San Francisco last evening, unveiled plans to continue pushing into the cloud computing business while noting that the industry has still massive room to grow. While unveiling its new cloud service and applications directed at customers in e-commerce and manufacturing, including a tool that integrates with human resource applications of the company, Mr. Ellison emphasized on Oracle’s determination to dominate the cloud computing market.

He also noted that while the cloud marketing is hitting the growth phase, it’s still pretty young and there are no clear leaders as of yet. He also acclaimed company’s biggest competitors stating, “Along with Microsoft, we’re the only one working at all three layers of the cloud." Among others, he believes new entrants like Amazon.com, Inc. and Workday Inc. to be the company’s biggest competitors…

If there’s a defining characteristic of business in this millennium, it’s that failure comes faster. Think about the shift from VHS and DVDs to on-demand content streaming services, and the impact this had on retail stores. Giants in the industry stumble when they fail to innovate and the inability to adapt quickly to the changing technology landscape, the on-demand economy and consumer behavior can be catastrophic.

However, businesses in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) are starting to take notice and understand the importance IT plays in innovation. Oracle Corp. Executive Chairman Larry Ellison said his company will continue its push into the cloud while noting the industry still has much room to grow. Leadership in the field remained up for grabs with the biggest cloud-only businesses still relatively small — none at around $100 billion, Ellison said, probably referring to annual sales.

Oracle now counts relatively newer entrants such as Amazon.com Inc, Workday Inc. and Microsoft Corp. among its most formidable competitors, the company’s billionaire founder said on Sunday. “This is how much our world has changed,” Ellison said during a keynote at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco. “We no longer pay any attention” to traditional competitors SAP SE and International Business Machines Corp. “It is quite a shock.”…

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich took the stage Sunday night with Oracle CEO Mark Hurd during the opening night at Oracle’s tech conference. The two companies have been partners for decades but now, they have a new common competitor: IBM. This now that IBM has sold its Intel-based computer server business to Lenovo and is now concentrating on selling only the more expensive, higher-margin computer servers that use its own Power chip.

So a few months ago, Oracle’s rising star head of engineering and products, Thomas Kurian, met with a few of Intel’s Software and Services Group, Doug Fisher said on stage. Fisher and Kurian decided to set up a joint team of engineers from both companies near Intel’s facilities in Oregon, code named Project Apollo…

Oracle is taking some drastic, far-reaching steps to fix its troubled cloud-computing business and turn it into a major player.  Right now, Oracle has a cloud service, based at least in part on the technology it got in the acquisition of startup Nimbula. This business is struggling to gain traction against Amazon, Google, and others.
