Sonus Networks, Inc., a global leader in secure and intelligent Cloud communications, today introduced the Sonus SBC SWe Lite, a virtualized e-SBC designed for Skype for Business or Office 365 Cloud PBX deployments. The SBC SWe Lite supplements the Sonus SBC SWe, providing a virtual Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE) option for SMEs looking to virtualize interworking, security and survivability for Unified Communications (UC).

By leveraging the same management and provisioning interface as the Sonus SBC 1000 and SBC 2000, the SBC SWe Lite empowers enterprises to migrate from hardware to software without additional investments in new equipment. The SBC SWe Lite also gives customers the flexibility to deploy a virtual SBC solution on standard off-the-shelf servers or in virtualized environments. Enterprises with spare virtual machine resources available to host SBC functionality can significantly reduce the capital expenditures associated with deploying physical hardware on-premises in support of Skype for Business or Office 365 Cloud PBX.

Whether it’s sharing files via Dropbox, saving images on Google Drive or placing an order with Amazon, we all use what is commonly referred to as ‘the cloud’ for our basic computing needs. But did you know the typical cloud server only operates at approximately 20 % of its computing capacity? In fact, the cloud is now responsible for nearly 10 % of the world’s total electricity consumption – meaning the current model of cloud computing is simply not sustainable.

The EU-funded CLOUDLIGHTNING project intends to change this by creating a more efficient, sustainable and user-centric cloud. The project is working to develop an intelligent, power-efficient cloud computing infrastructure that will provide energy savings to cloud service providers and simplify access for cloud users. By using heterogeneous processing resources, the project believes it can increase the cloud’s computing capacity from the dismal 20 % of today to a more sustainable 80 %…

Even as companies turn to the cloud, Condusiv Technologies says the physical data center is an important yet neglected part of an IT infrastructure. The company today updated its popular Diskeeper software with DRAM caching and a guarantee to improve performance for physical servers or PCs. This latest version, Diskeeper 16, uses available DRAM resources to serve hot data reads and ensure large, clean contiguous data writes from the Windows operating system so fragmentation is no longer an issue for disk or solid-state storage.

How do you get started using the cloud? For some organizations, cloud usage has already begun by someone in the company – whether they know it or not. But to have a successful cloud deployment, it’s helpful to have a plan. Consultancy Cloud Technology Partners is one of many companies that help customers adopt public IaaS cloud computing resources. CloudTP says the following 10 tips are key for a successful cloud rollout.

1. Alignment work

After a company has made a decision to use IaaS cloud computing services, it’s helpful to have a level-set meeting with important stakeholders at the company to get everyone on the same page. Typical groups involved in this meeting would be security managers, finance and procurement professionals, infrastructure engineers, operations workers and third-party consultants…

Cumulus clouds are the pretty, cauliflower-shaped things you see floating in the sky. Apart from the rain and shade they bring, they seem to have performed one more task — that of serving as inspiration for a startup. Kumolus manages — yes, you guessed right — cloud technology.

Though it’s been almost a decade since cloud computing was introduced and privately used, the phenomenon is still quite new to India. It was just a couple of years ago that Indian companies finally shed security concerns, got impressed by the characteristics of this technology, and adopted it. Now, with enterprises adopting various kinds of cloud strategies to improve workload performance, the cloud systems management software market has grown exponentially in the past few years…
