The number of first-time users of cloud computing services in the UK has increased by 27% from last year, according to research from the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF). But the CIF survey showed that, while the rate of adoption has accelerated, concerns over cloud computing security issues remain high.

The study of 250 UK IT decision-makers in private and public sector organisations, conducted by Vanson Bourne, found 61% of companies are using a cloud-based service, compared with just 48% in 2011. It also revealed a growing maturity among users with more organisations demanding to trial services before they buy them. Organisations are struggling to cope with increasing datacentre complexity according to a global survey of 2,453 IT professionals from Symantec.

The vast majority (79%) of organisations globally said their datacentres were getting more complex Symantec’s 2012 State of the Data Centre Survey found. A rise in business-critical applications (cited by 65%, data growth (51%), mobile computing (44%), server virtualisation (43%) and public cloud (41%) were driving greater complexity in the datacentre environment.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is the part of Cloud Computing most synonymous with app development; one that lays open its doors for innovative minds to interact. There is also the perception that technology, due to dynamism, leads to better security. This platform exemplifies this need by introducing open source stats that are, in themselves, encryption tools.
