The federal government this year has made implementing its “cloud first” policy a top priority, requiring agencies to shift their data from hundreds of storage centers to Web-based systems. But in the impending era of austerity, with Congress members seeking significant cuts in spending, will the policy be elevated, maintained or diminished?…

That question likely will be pondered Wednesday through Friday by hundreds of government information technology specialists and industry officials at the Cloud Computing & Virtualization Conference and Exposition. The event is sponsored by a firm called 11o5 Government Information Group which publishes magazines geared toward government employees.

The conference seeks to address the latest thinking on cloud policies and more down-to-earth concerns such as how to secure the data and how to select the best vendor.

The session is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Pl. NW in the District.

Flip through the cable channels and you’ll see ample evidence that the celebrity wannabe trend is far from fading. Indeed, an entire channel — the Style Network — has a lineup of shows devoted not only to offering play-by-play coverage of what the A-list, B-list and even C-list stars are wearing, but giving ordinary women makeovers so they can achieve those looks.

Reproducing those trends for the masses is big business, a driver Saturday of the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce ’s Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle Expo. Organizers say the six-hour event will give hundreds of hair and makeup artists and fashion merchants a heads-up on the styles everyone will be talking about next year as well as a chance to get a makeover and meet celebrities, including Nigel Barker, a fashion photographer who is a judge on “America’s Next Top Model” on the CW Network.

The event is slated to begin at noon at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
