Trend Micro Reports Alarming Rise in Mobile and Cloud Computing Cyber Attacks
August 5, 2011Android malware and cloud computing-related data breaches are growing at an alarming rate. Social networking scams have become more sophisticated, and cybercriminals continue to instigate malicious schemes, according to Trend Micro’s (News
– Alert) 2Q 2011 Threat Roundup report…
“At the rate cybercriminals are launching attacks, targeted or not, there’s just no telling how many more companies and users will succumb to the dangers these pose before the year ends,” said Raimund Genes, CTO, Trend Micro, a global cloud security solutions provider, in a statement.
Trend Micro’s 2Q 2011 Threat Roundup report shared several instances of cyber attacks. The Epsilon breach in April was one such example when multiple e-mail accounts were compromised, leading to information and identity theft.
TrendMicro proved how risky viewing email accounts at work are due to the downloading of Trojanized apps are to users and businesses.
IT major Microsoft was the number one vendor target for attacks, with a total of 96. Search engine giant Google and Adobe (News – Alert) have the second and third posts with 65 and 62 attacks respectively.
Trend Micro was instrumental in blocking malicious URLs throughout 2Q, which put the company on Microsoft’s (News
– Alert) leader board for the seventh straight month in a row.
Apple was not in the Top 10 in 2Q 2011. However, the number of Mac and Apple (News
– Alert) mobile device exploits is growing steadily. Android OS faced three attacks in 2Q. All three posed as either fake apps or updates to trick users into executing them. Social media company Facebook also experienced several attacks in the form of spammed malicious links through various Facebook (News – Alert) tools.
Recently, Trend Micro announced that Go Daddy Group, a provider of Web hosting and domain name registrations, has selected Trend Micro to help them better understand and stay ahead of online threats.
