Aryaka, provider of the world’s first cloud-based WAN optimization and application acceleration solution, today announced the results of a survey of 110 IT and cloud professionals ranging from C-level executives to Senior Networking Managers conducted among 5,000 attendees at the recent Cloud Computing EXPO 2011 in Santa Clara, CA. Results indicate offshore development (30%) tied to continued global expansion is driving further adoption of cloud computing, in addition to 24X7 support (18%) and call centers (12%). 49% of respondents said that the need for successful and timely application development specifically was pushing their companies into new geographies, mainly Asia (55%), Australia (26%), South America (26%) and Eastern Europe (25%)…

Cloud Expo attendees described production applications (39%) as the top reason why they use cloud services, followed by core business applications (36%), storage (33%) and disaster recovery initiatives (29%). Employees complained most about slow and poor-performing file sharing applications (36%). Issues with Exchange (email) (29%), special applications (VDI, SVN, PDM) (24%) were ranked second and third among respondents of the survey.

"Cloud Computing is gaining broad-based acceptance among organizations of every size across nearly every industry for varying projects," said Jeffrey M. Kaplan, Managing Director of THINKstrategies and founder of the Cloud Computing Showplace. "This survey provides useful perspectives from IT and cloud professionals regarding how geographies, distance, latency and the network influence cloud compute and storage adoption worldwide."

The survey results underscore the need for enterprises to simply and affordably connect their distributed workforce, data centers and cloud services through WAN optimization via the cloud for productivity gains and operational efficiency. Aryaka provides WAN optimization functionality deployed across a global network with a web-based portal — MyAryaka — that enables users to track their global locations, performance and availability of their network and applications. As more enterprises go global, having bandwidth for today’s applications as well as access to the right information to make strategic decisions has never been so critical.

"As global corridors continue to expand, especially in India, China, Israel, Australia, Brazil and Eastern Europe, it’s clear that an elastic, optimized network is urgently needed to provide multinational companies of all sizes, a competitive advantage," said Ajit Gupta, Founder, President and CEO of Aryaka. "Trends in global expansion are moving more people into the cloud and Internet performance today is just not universally good enough for business across all geographies."
