Sophos moves into cloud security with SafeGuard Enterprise

Sophos has updated its SafeGuard Enterprise platform to offer encryption capabilities on cloud computing platforms.
The company said that the update would allow a single-password credential to encrypt and decrypt data stored with both on-premise and cloud storage platforms.
Designed to run across public, private and hybrid cloud systems, the SafeGuard Encryption for Cloud platform would allow for data to be encrypted on an end point prior to being uploaded to cloud storage services and platforms…
The company is also planning to use the cloud encryption module to boost its mobility offerings. Sophos will pair the product with its Mobile Encryption App to function as a data security platform for firms with a wide range of mobile and fixed devices.
"In today’s business world, users are everywhere, and data protection needs to be everywhere too,” said Sophos vice president of product management Matthias Pankert.
"With businesses continuing to experience costly and embarrassing breaches, it’s more important than ever to secure data. The latest version of SafeGuard Enterprise provides complete data protection."
Data security has for years been cited as a hurdle for the adoption of cloud computing programmes, with storage platforms in particular seeing uptake held back.
Researchers have found that the combination of security worries and compliance requirements often force enterprises to retain data in local datacentres rather than migrate to more cost-effective cloud computing services.
