Small companies interested in making use of mobile marketing could decide to employ dedicated software-as-a-service solutions.

This is according to a prediction from Roger Woodend, general manager of 2ergo Australia, who told the Business Spectator website that software-as-a-service mobile marketing tools are being developed, with the potential to give smaller retailers the chance to compete in this field with their larger competitors.

"Features and programs such as location recognition services, m-commerce and SMS-based couponing will allow small retailers to compete head-to-head," he forecast.

Mr Woodend said enterprises that make use of the technology will have the chance to battle for "consumers’ loyalty and [their] wallet".

His comments follow a recent article by Rob Bell, senior director of service operations and IT at Kinaxis, who said one of the key advantages of software-as-a-service technology is its ability to be regularly updated.

He explained such upgrades mean users have the best systems at their disposal.
