Salesforce.com applications are set to improve as a result of the company’s purchase of social media monitoring organisation Radian6.

This is according to Marc Benioff, chairman and chief executive officer of Salesforce.com, who said the deal represents a "huge opportunity" for the cloud computing business to expand its operations.

"Not only will this acquisition accelerate our growth, it will extend the value of all of our offerings," he stated.

It was explained that Radian6’s platform will combine well with the Sales and Service Cloud, by allowing users to make use of real-time social intelligence.

Meanwhile, the Salesforce.com application Chatter will be filled with updates from Facebook and Twitter as a result of the link-up.

Last month, Salesforce.com unveiled the Service Cloud 3, which it has labelled as the next generation of social contact centres.

It is designed to let users leverage built-in social analytics and prioritise interactions across different channels.
