The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA) today released preliminary results from its recently conducted benchmark study on the impact of cloud computing on technology professional services…

Bo Di Muccio, TSIA’s vice president of research and advisory services, presented the survey results at Technology Services World (TSW) 2011 Las Vegas.

According to Di Muccio, “The disruption of the cloud computing revolution has been top of mind for technology services executives for some time. As part of this, there has been an assumption that PS business models would be experiencing upheaval as well. To determine the actual current and expected impacts of cloud on PS, we conducted a Member Survey in late summer/early fall 2011. The results have been revealing.”

The survey shows both current-state and future-state projections among PS managers, with 60% of those surveyed stating that the impact of cloud on their organizations will be high to very high within five years.

A primary reason for this near-term shift is that the move toward simpler, more cloud-based products will decrease the need for implementation services, which make up 85% of the services provided by today’s PSOs.

In the conference session, Di Muccio revealed the current rate of adoption for both products and services, the need for the development of new offerings and new skill sets, as well as the prime accelerators and prime inhibitors organizations cited regarding making the transition.
