La Salle-educated Chinese-Filipino Winston Damarillo moved to the US at age 20, sleeping on his uncle’s couch for a year.

He eventually landed his first job at Intel and eventually began building his startup companies.

Now at age 41, his cloud computing software has been recognized as a leader in his field…

“I’m a geek. I like technology. I’m a business person, I can see the opportunity, but now I’m beginning to recognize that I’m part of this world and I’m Filipino so I want to make sure that Filipino talent is part of global innovation,” the CEO of Morphlabs described himself.

Damarillo has started all of his four cloud computing companies in Cebu before he brings them to the US. Through cloud computing, Damarillo creates technologies that maximize the power of multiple computers without having to add extra parts or use extra energy.

He believes the Philippines could be a leader in cloud computing. “This technology is not just to further business, it can help developing countries, in our schools, in our health care, in our local government, and our budding entrepreneurs that is so required in the country so we can improve ourselves out of the economic situation that we are in right now," he explained.

As he has climbed to the top of the technology world, he’s also giving back through the PhilDev Foundation, a project with another Filipino technology giant, Dado Banatao. Their current project involves working with Fil-Am scholars to use technology to bring cost efficient energy to the Philippines.

“I had great mentors at Intel when I was just beginning in my career and to be able to work with younger people, on the next generation, to kind of share with them what I’ve learned and hopefully, they do much better than I did," he said.
