MobileVault Extends Secure Private Cloud Backup Offerings
September 8, 2010Disaster recovery solutions provider Continuity Centers and cloud backup innovator Asigra have teamed up again, this time with the addition of MobileVault data protection services to Continuity Centers’ Secure Private Cloud Backup offerings.
The two companies are already well known for the collaborative offering, SecureVault. SecureVault is an agentless, secure, off-site data protection offering powered by Asigra and its cloud backup platform.
The new MobileVault data protection services are based on DS-Mobile, a feature in the Asigra Cloud Backup platform, extending backup and recovery services to mobile computing devices outside the corporate LAN.
MobileVault is specifically built for laptops and desktops, says Continuity Centers. It is designed to enable quick file-based backup and recovery. In addition, the solution aims to compete against low-cost SLA offerings already in the channel.
Whenever a mobile unit (like a laptop) is connected to the Internet, files can automatically backed up to the cloud. Versions of a file can be restored quickly from the
The agentless technology within MobileVault also eliminates the need to for software to be installed on each machine in need of protection. Asigra’s block-level delta backup and deduplication is employed for quick backup.
Continuity Centers COO Gregory R. Tellone says his group wanted to provide a simple, mobile-based data protection solution.
“Although many companies have a policy to not save data locally on laptops or to sync data from laptops to the network,” Tellone explains, “they all agree that these are difficult policies to enforce and often leaves their employees frustrated and data unprotected.”
For this reason, he says, Continuity Centers members have been asking for a “reliable, cost effective disaster recovery solution for their laptops, with SOHO backup prices.”
“Adding MobileVault to our portfolio was the logical next step to grow and strengthen our mobile protection offering,” says Tellone. He adds, “Our relationship with Asigra has grown significantly over the years, and we are very excited to offer this new service to the business, government, and educational communities.”
