Merger and acquisition (M&A) deals are helping more companies to consider making use of cloud computing.

Jim Reavis, co-founder and executive director of the Cloud Security Alliance, explained to the Search Security website that this is a noticeable trend at the moment.

IT executives within companies that have just completed an M&A agreement are frequently turning to cloud computing in order to meet the new demands that come with such an upheaval.

Mr Reavis noted he is hearing a lot of talk about successful pilot schemes involving the cloud from a number of organisations.

Last month, Formtek blogger Dick Weisinger noted recent figures from the International Data Corporation revealed more businesses are set to purchase cloud computing solutions during 2011.

It forecast a 30 per cent increase on such applications over the course of the year – around five times higher than the increase on spending on general IT solutions.
