To harness the power of the sophisticated, disruptive technologies coming to the enterprise market in the coming years, IBM research suggests that companies will place a premium on talented IT departments…
According to the 2011 IBM Tech Trends Report, global firms are expected to express the need for strong technical skills related to mobile computing, cloud computing, social business, open source technologies and business analytics.
Three-quarters of organizations are expected to engage in cloud computing projects during the next two years, laying the foundation for several complementary innovations.
"The results are clear. Mobile computing, cloud computing, social business and business analytics have gone beyond niche status and are now part of any modern organization’s core IT focus," explained IBM spokesman Jim Corgel.
The global survey of more than 4,000 IT professionals across 93 countries also revealed a number of interesting regional and cultural differences.
In terms of support for social business concepts, India is the current market leader with a 57 percent adoption rate. Traditional technology innovators such as the United States and China are not far behind in this category, with each displaying an approximate adoption rate of 45 percent. However, Russia lagged behind the other global powers with a 19 percent adoption rate for social business, possibly reflecting cultural resistance.
