Five Small Companies Cashing In Thanks To The Cloud

There was a time when technology represented a barrier to entry for companies targeting new markets. The high spend required on IT in order to break into many markets acted as a brake on competition. Small businesses, in particular, found it difficult to compete with larger, more established rivals.
The advent of cloud computing, however, has turned that argument on its head, levelling the playing field for companies of different sizes. As they are now able to buy software and capacity as and when it is needed through cloud-based structures, small businesses no longer have to make huge upfront investments in order to get up and running in a new market. Those with good ideas for innovation can just get on with it, challenging the existing players…
Moreover, as these businesses increase in size, it is easier and cheaper to add capacity through the cloud, so that the limitations of in-house technology don’t inhibit their ability to scale up. And if the venture does prove unsuccessful, there are fewer start-up losses to worry about…
