F5 Helps Cloud Provider Deliver its Cloud Stack to Enterprise Customers
November 14, 2011
F5 Networks, Inc., the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that Lokahi has implemented F5(R) BIG-IP(R) Application Delivery Controllers as a crucial component of its Comprehensive Cloud Solutions(TM), providing enterprise-class cloud computing services to help businesses and organizations reduce capital expenditure (CapEx) by contracting out their IT infrastructure…
The Lokahi Infrastructure Virtualization Engine(TM) provides network management, disaster recovery, network security, capacity planning, and email hosting–all in the Lokahi-managed cloud.
Lokahi’s cloud solution aims to help customers simplify IT by replicating the infrastructures and policies governing delivery of their applications in a managed cloud environment. Notable customers include HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union and Rolloffs Hawaii.
"We pride ourselves on a high-touch approach to customer service and flawless IT performance," said Jeffrey Dahn, Founder and CEO at Lokahi. "F5 BIG-IP products help us remove barriers to cloud adoption, ensuring that the Lokahi Infrastructure Virtualization Engine is highly available and highly secure. F5 was the natural choice for security and performance because it integrates extremely well with our platform."
BIG-IP Solutions Optimize and Secure Services
In addition to deploying BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager(TM) (LTM(R)), Lokahi implemented multiple BIG-IP product modules, including:
— BIG-IP Access Policy Manager(R) (APM(TM)), providing global access to customers’ applications and network infrastructures;
— BIG-IP WAN Optimization Manager(TM) (WOM(R)), which speeds data transfers over the WAN, ensuring traffic between data centers is optimized, encrypted, and highly available;
— BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager(TM) (GTM(TM)), directing users to the closest or best performing data center based on traffic volume and business policy.
Enhanced User Experience for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
Leveraging BIG-IP devices to support Lokahi’s cloud stack, customers anywhere can take advantage of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to access corporate data, software, and web applications using a variety of PCs, tablets, and mobile devices.
"With BIG-IP devices in place, we can securely connect users to their data and applications in a number of ways, including via mobile devices. Our customers experience significant cost reductions because they no longer have to maintain or manage their IT infrastructures," added Dahn.
By migrating their IT infrastructures to the cloud, Lokahi customers can divert CapEx spend to operating expenditure (OpEx) and reduce costs overall. Customers pay only for the resources they consume, and services can be scaled up or down instantly as business needs dictate.
To support its Infrastructure Virtualization Engine, Lokahi used F5 BIG-IP deployment guides, which provide step-by-step guidance for best practices implementations. Lokahi plans to make its cloud services available in the Asia Pacific region and the mainland United States beginning in 2012.
"F5’s security and access management technologies provide high availability and help Lokahi deliver easy access to resources in the cloud while keeping customers’ confidential data protected," said Jason Needham, Senior Director of Product Management at F5. "Even the largest enterprises can rely on Lokahi to provide them with cloud services, and we’re pleased to be part of the Lokahi solution."
