Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, along with Accelera Solutions, Inc., an IT solutions provider specializing in virtualization solutions, today announced that it has been awarded the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Server Hosted Virtual Desktops and Applications (SHVDA) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract. The contract, which has a potential five-year performance period with a total estimated value of $25 million at $5 million per year, began this year…

Under the terms of the contract, Accelera Solutions, the recipient of the award, will provide virtualization engineering services for the design, deployment, support and training of a standard virtual desktop and application solution to enable seamless and secure access to the EPA’s more than 19,000 federal and contract workers at EPA locations across the US. The SHVDA solution consists of Wyse thin and zero clients, combined with Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft RDS and VDA licenses and the AppSense Management Suite.

"During this period of challenging budget constraints, we are pleased to be able to provide the leading energy-efficient computing solutions to the U.S. Department in charge of environmental issues," said Maryam Alexandrian, Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Channels at Wyse Technology. "The combination of enhanced security and lower total cost of ownership provides government agencies an upgrade path that significantly reduces expenses while leveraging the latest in green computing solutions."

In addition to standardizing IT programs, the implementation will help extend the lifecycle of existing endpoint devices and legacy applications, reduce energy consumption and overall Agency carbon footprint while improving information security.

"Accelera has a successful track record of delivering innovative technologies to the EPA that drive cost savings and enable secure remote access," said Joe Brown, president of Accelera Solutions. "We are excited to continue supporting the EPA in deploying turnkey solutions that build on the agency’s IT assets and maximize efficiency of operations."

Wyse Technology is ISO 14001 certified. Achieving this certification is another example of Wyse’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices, consistent with the EPA’s mission and goals.

With an effective implementation of ISO 14001 based Environmental Management System, Wyse has taken steps to reduce impact of its activities on the environment by means such as reduction in electricity consumption on a per employee basis, reduction in solid waste, an increase in recycling of spent batteries and reduction in carbon footprint due to employee travel. Furthermore, Wyse IT switched to thin clients worldwide and reduced the power consumption by 45% as well as reduced CO2 emissions by 80% from 2008 to 2010 through server virtualization and consolidation.
