Businesses should be looking to update their data quality practices over time to as their organisation continues to evolve, it has been suggested.

SmartData Collective blogger Jim Harris explained that companies often employ best practices when first starting data quality initiatives, but many fail to build on these standards.

He added that ensuring data quality requires continual work on the part of a company’s employees.

"It’s a habit of continuous practice, continuous improvement, continuous learning, and continuous adaptation to continuous change – which is truly the best possible habit we can develop," Mr Harris said.

According to recent research from global analyst the Business Application Research Center (BARC), business intelligence application end users are most concerned about data quality when making use of the systems.

Barney Finucane, a BARC analyst and lead author of the study, said this year marks the first time respondents have been more concerned about data quality issues than query speed concerns.
