A failure to meet data quality requirements can lead to difficulties for organisations further down the line, it has been asserted.

Writing for B-Eye Network, David Loshin, president of consultancy company Knowledge Integrity, said business problems can be "directly related" to poor data quality.

He stated the use of flawed information makes it more difficult to achieve critical business objectives.

But Mr Loshin added data quality improvements can help to tackle any problems in this area.

"Controlling the quality of the information production process from beginning to end [can] ensure that any imperfections are identified early, prioritised and remediated before material impacts can be incurred," he said.

Last week, IT Business Edge blogger Ann All suggested both IT and business departments need to be fully committed when data quality initiatives are being carried out.

She explained the demonstration of "very specific" business cases can help to prove the value of being involved in such projects to those employees who are struggling with the concept.
