Cloud Services Firm NTT DATA Joins Open Data Center Alliance Steering Committee

Data center organization the Open Data Center Alliance announced on Tuesday that cloud services provider NTT DATA has become the newest member of the organization’s steering committee.

As a cloud-based services provider, NTT DATA’s input should help address the challenges associated with transitioning to cloud computing.

The Alliance’s mandate is to provide the IT requirements for cloud computing adoption and to turn the requirements into solutions through collaboration with Alliance members and industry standards bodies…

The group strives to define usage models that support emerging data center and cloud infrastructure requirements in an open, industry-standard and multi-vendor way, in an effort to influence industry innovation focus and guide purchasing decisions of data center solutions.

In June 2011 the Alliance published the first release of its usage models cloud computing requirements.

In addition to cloud-based solutions, NTT DATA offers consulting, system development, business process, and IT outsourcing. NTT DATA has operations in 35 countries with over 57,000 employees, and has reported revenues of $14 billion.

The Alliance is comprised of over 300 global organizations from various industries to provide a “leading voice for end users in cloud computing”.

“With over 300 members, the Open Data Center Alliance has become a leading voice for the IT community,” said Marvin Wheeler, Open Data Center Alliance chairman. “It is exciting to see industry leaders like NTT DATA signing up to help set the direction for development and implementation of cloud computing through the work of the Alliance.”

The Alliance is led by a 12 member steering committee which includes IT leaders BMW, Capgemini, China Life, China Unicom, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Lockheed Martin, Marriott International, National Australia Bank, Terremark, Disney Technology Solutions and Services, and UBS. Intel serves as technical advisor to the Alliance.

The organization will host its first public event, Forecast 2012, on June 12 in New York City. Held in conjunction with the 10th International Cloud Expo, the event will be open to Alliance members, partner organizations and any companies and organizations interested in attending.

The event will include presentations by top cloud visionaries, classes presented by Alliance technical leaders and the latest industry advancements in delivery of solutions based on Alliance requirements.
