Cloud: never mind the risk, feel the benefits
March 5, 2012Last week research firm Longhaus released a report ranking the top 45 providers offering cloud services to the Australian market. It had culled these from an initial list of 175 contenders.
In a posting on the Longhaus blog, the principle author of the report, Longhaus research director Scott Stewart, said: "The study confirms that there can still be big risks with some clouds, probably much higher than most would care to consider…
"The data that we have just collected over the past three months tells me that there is good and bad cloud, and there is risk. Enough risk to make any enterprise not want to jump in too quickly, especially with critical data. At least not without first, assessing the risks, developing a plan B and having a good look at the legal framework that supports the service."
He added: "When I discussed these risks with one provider their view was that there were just too many benefits for enterprises in moving to their cloud that they should be less risk adverse and just jump in, assuring me that the issues are constantly being improved and the cloud is constantly maturing."
