Cloud computing ‘won’t hurt IT jobs’
August 1, 2011The increasing popularity of cloud computing will not have a damaging effect on IT jobs, according to one expert.
Speaking to Cloud Pro, Tim Griffin, Dell’s global vice president (VP) for services and solutions, said that although new technologies will always lead to concerns over the future of IT professionals, the industry will always need workers…
In terms of the future of IT, Mr Griffin suggested that while many services will shift to the cloud, many will stay put in the server room, at least for now.
“My personal view is that you’re going to be seeing a hybrid model where people are going to [be] mixing on-premise and cloud, whether it’s software or IT,” he told the news provider.
Recently EMC chief technology officer Chuck Hollis highlighted the possibility that Australia will experience a skills shortage in terms of people with cloud and data know-how.
Speaking at the EMC Inform conference he said that data growth is outpacing the number of people with skills, reports Voice and Data.
