Firms will increasingly use cloud computing solutions via their mobile devices over the coming years, it has been predicted.  Independent information provider Visiongain believes some $45 billion (£29 million) will be generated in revenue by mobile cloud computing products by 2016.

It suggested the market is now starting to evolve and is due to undergo a "rapid growth stage" shortly…

The cloud computing sector as a whole is forecast to be worth $240 billion in five years’ time, up from $77 billion this year, with mobile equipment making up a growing portion of this.

Among the reasons given for the anticipated surge in the popularity of mobile cloud computing are the significant progress made in 3G technology and increasing smartphone penetration.

Dr Mick Grierson, computing lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London, recently said that cloud computing is expected to change the way desktops look forever, providing an efficient and affordable way to run an office.
