The use of cloud computing offerings should be an important part of a company’s overall strategy for IT, it has been suggested.

This is according to Douglas Menefee, chief information officer of the Schumacher Group, who said that businesses should not make the mistake of viewing cloud computing as a separate entity to other IT operations.

"Develop your IT strategy – cloud is just part of it," he stated in comments reported by Forbes.

Mr Menefee went on to note that his organisation had around five per cent of their processes based in the cloud back in 2005, a figure that has now increased to around 90 per cent.

He explained that routine administrative procedures are now taken care of by cloud computing, while sensitive data remains within the company.

Earlier this month, Rob Ayoub, global programme director for information security research at Frost & Sullivan, predicted that the most successful cloud computing providers in the coming years will be the ones that do the best job of proving the security of their offerings, reported Computerworld New Zealand.
