Cloud Computing: Red Hat Sued for Patent Infringement

Twin Peaks Software is suing open source champion Red Hat and its Gluster subsidiary for patent infringement in District Court in California. It claims they’re treading on its patented Mirror File System involving the management of data on computer networks. The patent, US No 7,418,439, was issued in late August of 2008.
Twin Peaks uses the technology in its replication and clustering products to provide a multi-location, always-available model of computer data management that’s said to improve hardware utilization…
It says on its web site that its My Mirror and Replication Plus products help users save important laptop files in real-time to the cloud and let enterprise IT professionals replicate mission-critical applications and data to one or more servers on the cloud in real-time. When there are two copies of live files and mission-critical applications on two separate systems in the cloud, it says, disaster can be prevented. To be doubly sure, it offers a private cloud solution.
