Companies that are planning to employ cloud computing solutions at their organisation should be looking to work with a vendor who can reassure them over various compliance issues.

According to Computerworld commentator Bernard Golden, meeting legal and regulatory requirements should be a central focus for cloud computing vendors, with the issue forming part of the provisioning process.

"Part of the decision tree for that real-time deployment decision has to be the compliance implications of deployment location, which requires integration of these requirements into the automated provisioning process," he said.

Mr Golden explained that businesses should be aware of the implications of running a cloud computing environment and how it will affect their operations.

Last month, Mark McDonald, group vice president and head of research for Gartner Executive Programs, explained that cloud computing is helping to redefine the way in which IT works.

In comments reported on the My Broadband website, he said the technology is helping chief information officers to devote more time to issues such as the strategic impact of IT decisions.
