Cloud-computing startup enStratus Networks Inc. has raised $3.5 million in venture capital in a round led by El Dorado Ventures

Minneapolis-based enStratus will use the funding for product development and to expand its sales and marketing teams…

Businesses use enStratus’ technology to manage tasks related to cloud computing. For instance, the company’s software has built-in security controls to make sure that only employees with appropriate clearances can access data. Its technology also monitors the reliability of a cloud provider’s services.

Cloud computing allows companies to outsource portions of their IT infrastructure, typically to large companies such as Amazon.com. Cloud providers keep data and software on their servers, and customers can access those applications via the Web.

EnStratus has about 25 employees and openings for about 10 additional jobs, a company spokesman said.

El Dorado Venture has offices in Silicon Valley and Minnetonka.

“We are excited about enStratus and the opportunity to help bring enterprise-level cloud management and governance to their customers,” said Jeff Hinck, El Dorado’s Minnestoa-based general partner. “The enStratus solution, as well as a proven management team, were key factors in our decision to lead this round and we are confident in their continued success.”
