Rarely a week goes by without news of new jobs being created within the cloud computing industry.  Cloud Strong currently employs five people and is recruiting two more in their sales department. And the company expects to create at least 15 new jobs over the next two years.

For those who may not be familiar with the term, Cloud Strong Technical Director Daryl Byrne explains that cloud computing is:

    * a way of delivering IT services via a web browser. It allows business owners to remove themselves from the ownership of their IT infrastructure, so that they can focus on their core business. “Business owners should see cloud computing as a service such as your phone line,” says Mr Byrne…

    * there are several advantages for businesses moving to the cloud, primarily in terms of cost benefits. “Not only does cloud computing reduce your IT cost but companies gain access to more sophisticated software that would otherwise be out of reach for many of the SMEs. Cloud computing allows SMEs access to what previously would have been seen as corporate solutions,” he says.
    * the cloud computing industry is growing “fast and strong” at the moment, according to Mr Byrne with companies taking up their services and “gaining a competitive edge over their competition”. “Cloud computing is equivalent to the start of the Internet all over again, without the bubble bursting.
    * In addition to posing opportunities for employers, the cloud computing sector also offers opportunities for jobseekers, according to Mr Byrne. He advises that education is the way forward for those who want improve their changes for employment in the sector, but acknowledges that this may not be feasible for everyone. “What I would suggest is Microsoft or Cisco certification. As an employer, if a candidate had these qualification their chances of being employed would have vastly improved,” he says.

Employers would be more open to take on a graduate with ICT experience, be it a paid role or work experience role,” he says. Cloud Strong have just moved into their new office in the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC) at GMIT, which Mr Byrne describes as “truly an outstanding resource” for start-up companies.
