Citrix pleads the case for Cloud
October 12, 2011
“The mindset hasn’t been there,” claims Peder Ulander, VP Product Marketing, Cloud Platform Group, Citrix. He says that while businesses in other parts of the world have focused on the cloud as a way of driving down energy costs and consolidating infrastructure, this has not typically appealed to enterprises in the Middle East…
“These pieces have not been relevant to the Middle East because energy has been ubiquitous and there are massive amounts of space,” Ulander continues. “So the typical constraints that got businesses to focus on virtualisation and consolidation have not been a driving force here.”
However, he believes that virtualisation and cloud computing have become attractive to regional firms for other reasons. “The value the cloud brings isn’t just about space, power and resources – it’s more about mobility, security and capability of users, and empowering your staff and partners to do new things,” Ulander goes on. That seems to be something that has resonated quite well [in the region], because it’s a new way of working, rather than just focusing on driving down costs.” Ulander adds that some IT vendors have confused users over what cloud means.
