Many CIOs still have concerns when it comes to a move to the Cloud according to a report from Red Hat. The open source software developer recently released its 2015 Red Hat A/NZ Cloud Adoption Index that states many CIOs are not fully prepared to get the most from a move to Cloud.

According to the report, this is a result of three main concerns about Cloud deployments, namingly security, compatibility and inconsistent or nonexistent planning. Red Hat A/NZ regional vice-president and general manager, Max McLaren, said many business leaders are still reluctant to let go of the traditional model of capital expenditure, hardware budgets and datacentres…

Chipmaker Nvidia Corp said it expects cloud computing revenue to hit $1 billion in the next two to three years, as demand for big data analysis drives growth in graphics chips. Cloud computing is the company’s fastest-growing segment, with revenue increasing at about 60-70 percent a year, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang told reporters a day before Computex, Asia’s largest technology trade show, opens in Taipei.

Nvidia makes chips for computing and gaming graphics, known as GPU, or graphical processing units. It has also been moving into automotive graphics in partnership with automaker Tesla Motors Inc. Cloud computing allows people to play graphics-heavy games over the Internet, Huang said. He also noted that the company’s GPUs can now be used for a wide variety of applications, such as voice commands like those used by Apple Inc’s Siri.

Application development (34%), managed services (27%), ERP implementations (22%) and cloud (20%) are the highest spending priorities for enterprises in 2015 according to the latest Cowen & Company IT spending survey.  53% of enterprises plan to purchase Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) services from an IT services provider.

21% year-over-year spending growth on SMAC technologies is forecast between 2014 and 2015.  Funding is expected to increase 7 to 8 times vs. average IT Services budgets for digital and SMAC-based initiatives this year.  These and other insights are from Cowen & Company’s Mid-Year 2015 IT Spending Survey published May 26th (client access)…

Decade-old predictions about the eventual depletion of IPv4 addresses may soon be coming true.  The United States will run out of Internet addresses based on Internet Protocol version 4 by the summer, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

“The shortage puts companies that maintain their own large and growing Internet presence at the biggest risk, especially providers of cloud-computing services. Such companies could find themselves saddled with unexpected costs, technical problems or simply an inability to serve new customers. Those that aren’t building out their own data centers won’t face the shortage directly, but their online providers likely will,” the WSJ wrote…
