By David

Grazed from CloudComputing. Author: Mike East.

Today’s threat landscape is constantly evolving. In 2016 in particular, we’ve seen a huge shift with adversaries penetrating organisations from the DNC to WADA and gaining access to sensitive documents that were later leaked to embarrass individuals. Yet, while many believe that this trend starts and ends with a contentious election, it’s not something that’s going away in 2017.

In fact, we’re starting to see continued and varied threats, most recently with DDoS attacks taking down the likes of the EU commission. Overall, the pace and variation of exploits driven by technically astute adversaries, will only gain momentum in the coming year if not managed effectively…

Public vs. Private Cloud: 5 Trends to Watch

By David

Grazed from GovTechWorks. Author: Editorial Staff.

Security tops the concerns of federal information technology managers as they look to move data and applications into the cloud – and that’s consistent with other public sector IT executives. But federal managers are substantially more likely to settle on private cloud solutions when compared to those managing state and local or higher education IT services. Five trends that define the differences between how IT chiefs in each sector are approaching cloud migration:

Some 64 percent of federal IT managers said they are most likely to place a majority of their cloud-based applications in a private cloud, according to a recent study by market researcher MeriTalk. That compares with 54 percent of state and local IT managers and only 50 percent of those handling IT services for institutions of higher education. Confining agency data to private clouds does not necessarily mean building a cloud from scratch…

CloudVelox Extends Automation Capabilities to Cloud Network Customization to Accelerate Enterprise Cloud Migration

By David

CloudVelox, a pioneer in cloud automation and orchestration software, today announced a new automated cloud network customization capability for its One Hybrid Cloud (OHC) software that is designed for complex data center environments. Cloud network customization enables enterprises to map their existing network environments in a data center to a cloud network design, so that enterprises can accelerate the migration and deployment of workloads without sacrificing workload compatibility or control.

Large data centers and cloud environments have complex network configurations and settings to satisfy regulatory and internal policies. These data centers and environments have various levels of internal as well as external permissions and access. Additionally, for production deployments, enterprise workloads may be configured to operate in specific sub-networks, VLANs and use specific IP address ranges as well as physical IP addresses. To ensure these workloads can run in the cloud seamlessly would require a significant amount of effort, mapping the existing network design into a virtual network environment within the cloud. OHC cloud network customization automates the task of mapping an existing network environment into the cloud network, so that customers can accelerate deployments and maintain control to address regulatory, security and compliance mandates.

By David

Grazed from EETimes. Author: Rick Merritt.

With a simple video, Amazon has set in motion a chain of forces that could drive RFID into the mainstream and help Amazon pull further ahead of Google. It’s just one move, and nothing may come of it, but it sends out many ripples. The video creates expectations among consumers that they should be able to avoid check-out lines. It puts big grocery chains on notice that they need to figure out how to use RFID tags to create such stores before their competitors do.

Grocery stories won’t want to make this move. It will cost a lot to get items tagged, buy scanners, and figure out how to deal with inevitable conflicts when customers complain that they were charged for the wrong items. But the ones that do it will have a significant competitive advantage. However the struggles come out for grocery stores, RFID wins. It moves from use in the industrial Internet of Things to the consumer world big time…
